Sophia Dunkley provides legal solutions to her clients in the areas of corporate law, and charities and not-for-profit law.
Corporate Law| In her general corporate practice, Sophia provides general counsel services and independent legal advice to individuals and businesses; as well, she prepares business agreements, conducts document reviews and assists in the establishment, maintenance and reorganization of corporations, partnerships and sole proprietorships. Charities & NPOs| Sophia advises charitable foundations and charitable and not-for-profit organizations on day-to-day issues. In addition, she advises on specialized issues, including corporate governance, board fiduciary duties, trust law, charity regulation and compliance oversight, as well as income tax issues as they relate to charities and not-for-profits.
Prior to her role with Campbells LLP, Sophia operated and managed her own law firm and she has previously worked for large and small law firms where she gained valuable experience and developed her skills and knowledge in corporate law, charity and not-for-profit law, estate planning and family law. In addition, Sophia worked in the area of philanthropic advisory services within the estate and trust division of a top tier Canadian bank. During her tenure with this leading Canadian bank, Sophia also took a leadership role in the management and administration of more than 120 foundations.
Sophia was called to the Ontario Bar in 2002. She is a member of the Law Society of Ontario (formerly known as the Law Society of Upper Canada), and was a former member of the following organizations: the Canadian Bar Association (CBA), and the Canadian Association of Gift Planners (CAGP). She was a former executive member of the Canadian Bar Association (CBA) and the Ontario Bar Association’s (OBA) Charity and Not-for-Profit Law Sections and former member and Secretary of the Ontario Bar Association’s (OBA) Continuing Professional Development Section. She is an instructor in the paralegal education and law clerk program at Humber College.
